The ordinary is nothing but extraordinary

I’m not entirely sure what it is that draws me to photography — I just know that I love it. I love how the world becomes both narrower and wider when I let my gaze fall through the viewfinder. There’s a sense of calm, like a full-body exhale, when an image unfolds before my eyes. When the light softly and briefly turns the ordinary into something extraordinarily beautiful. It feels like stepping out of the roar of everyday life and pressure into a big yet tiny, peaceful other world — one that’s right in front of us, every single day.

It’s funny how I enjoy styling in product and food photography — it can pull you into the story and give the product that extra spark by guiding the eye. Yet when I’m photographing events or portraits, I do as little styling or directing as possible. I want to capture real moments — the ones when no one’s thinking about the camera. I blend into the background as much as I can. Sometimes I do feel like a bit of a creep 😂 but that is when the most genuine images appear — when no one feels they need to look a certain way. When they can just be.

And when it’s a one-on-one portrait? We talk, we chat, we breathe together. I take photos in between — in those small, quiet moments when I can feel you’ve arrived more fully in your body, in the now.

What matters most to me is that the images I create are both beautiful and simple — grounded in the natural, fleeting beauty of this very moment. And I hope that through my lens you are reminded that the ordinary, is nothing but extraordinary.

With love,

Linda Coenmans

p.s. ik ben natuurlijk hartstikke Nederlands. Maar midden in het proces van een nieuwe branding en website in twee talen, gooi ik het gewoon lekker door elkaar. Mailen of bellen kan gewoon in Nederlands of Engels 😉
